On the same day that Toby was born, my dad and I took off on the red eye to LAX, connected in Chicago, and flew into Virginia on the afternoon of Dec. 29th. I was exhausted and it was so cold you could see your breath. Dad picked up the U-haul truck and we ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant.

About 15 minutes prior to landing we could see the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia
On the 30th we picked up my dad's belongings he had left at a friends house out there, including his motorcycle, and then drove into WA D.C. to see the sights- in less than 2 hours!

Cherry Blossom trees on a park in the winter. There were lots of geese in the water. We saw them flying in formation heading south for the winter I'm guessing. Would love to see this park in the spring.

The Lincoln Memorial

Tourist
This is me freezing in D.C.. I had 2 layers on my legs and 4 on my top! Also I was wearing gloves, scarf, and beanie. It was Sunday so there weren't many people. Behind me is the Washington Memorial.

Abraham Lincoln
When you walk up the stairs and into this room with a gigantic Lincoln looking down on you it kind of takes your breath away. It was moving for me to be in a place that you read about in history books or you see this image a lot but to actually be there was awesome. His famous speeches were written all over the walls. After this I walked to the Vietnam Memorial.

My reflection in the memorial

Here is the Vietnam Memorial- see how it is a part of the landscape

I really liked this statue because it commemorates the women involved in the Vietnam War. These are women taking care of a wounded soldier.

The capital
That's all I saw in D.C. before we started our drive South. Virginia lasted forever because we kind of had to cut West before going South.

Virginia fog

I'm from Hawaii!

Clear skies in Mississippi
After Virginia we drive through Tennessee and spent the night in Chatanooga towards the end of the state. On the 31st we drove through Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Yay water! In Louisiana finally.

I was SO happy to see this sign.

My first meal in New Orleans- seafood gumbo. So good!

Russell and his friend Jacques taking care of me in the city
For our New Years celebration we went to Bourbon Street and joined the crowds of Hawaii and Georgia fans. At midnight they lit up this 2008 sign and apparently dropped a gumbo pot but I couldn't see it through the crowd.

Happy New Year!

Bourbon Street on New Years! I'm up here tossing out beads ;)

Russell's buddies Corey and Jacques
It was fun to celebrate the New Years there with so many Hawaii people there and my good friend Russell. It was really cold and it took over an hour to get the most interesting taxi ride of my life but I was safe with Russell and his friends and got to have a crazy experience spending New Years in New Orleans. Now we were ready for the game!
