I am very excited about this since I have been the one in charge of recycling at my house for the past 3.5 years! We now have 3 different bins- a gray one for refuse, a green one for green waste, and a blue one for recycling. So instead of having 2 trash pick up days, we only have 1 and the other day is for either a green or blue bin pickup. Isn't that great?! The county has been slowly expanding this program island wide. I think it is a great solution for Hawaii.
The refuse goes to the H-Power plant which uses it for energy and the green waste gets turned into mulch that we can go pick up for free.

It has this handy note on the back. Recycling gets separated and goes to the mainland for processing.
No more sweaty trips loading and unloading the recycling from my car on my days off! I am so happy and I think everyone else is too.
